Progress and Perfection

I use drug store shampoo. And conditioner. It’s not organic or all-natural. In fact, it is full of nasty ingredients. When I told my hair stylist that I use these particular products, she looked at me like I had three heads. You see, I have really curly hair that I straighten most days. Add in the Tennessee summer humidity, and you get frizz. Not just a little frizz. I’m talking Monica Geller in Jamaica frizz. I’ve tried natural product after natural product, and for my unruly hair, none of them come close to the sort-of-on-a-good-day-smoothness that my toxic green bottles give. So I’ve drawn the line for now. And it’s okay . . . I’m not freaking out.

Why not? Well, I’ve already made a lot of progress reducing the toxic load in my home through the years. I’ve swapped out the Windex, Soft Scrub, and Lysol for homemade cleaners using essential oils (and now, Hello, Thieves Household Cleaner!). Foaming hand soap, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, and dishwasher detergent have all been replaced with Young Living’s Thieves products. My candles were tossed out in favor of battery-operated versions, and there are no more PlugIns in my home thanks to essential oil diffusers in every room. My toothpaste, deodorant, lotion, makeup, nail polish, and much more have been switched out for non-toxic products one step at a time. It certainly didn’t happen overnight. Even with all of these positive changes, I still eat fast food a little too often, and I eat ice cream like it’s my job. Like the old adage goes, I may not be where I want to be, but I’m not where I once was. I’ve made significant progress. And that’s why I’m not freaking out.

Discovering the truth about the dangerous chemicals in our homes changed my life forever. It led to a slew of changes in products my family uses every week. I knew it was up to me to control which products entered my home. And it’s up to you for your home. You can be healthier one year from now by reducing your toxic load. Start replacing those most dangerous products in your home, like your fabric softener, laundry soap, candles, and air fresheners. You can dip your toe in the water or dive in head first. Either way, I would love to help you discover your healthier YOU with essential oils and oil-infused products from Young Living. Let’s talk!

You can do this! Just remember . . . it’s not about perfection — it’s about progress.
