• The name Lavender comes from the Latin verb, “lavare,” which means to wash.

• Lavender is drought-tolerant and can grow well in higher temperatures.

• Over 2500 years ago in Ancient Egyptian times, lavender was used during the mummification process.

Lavender essential oil is one of the most versatile essential oils and is ideal for creating a soothing and calming environment. I use lavender more than any other essential oil, it’s my go-to oil! Diffuse it for a fresh, clean scent and to eliminate odors. Lavender also supports healthy-looking skin and makes a great addition to any beauty routine. Lavender is also great to use on children because it is very gentle, just make sure to dilute! What is the difference between Lavender Vitality and Lavender essential oil?

The Vitality oil is the same 100 percent pure, therapeutic-grade essential oil as the topical/aromatic essential oil. The difference is that Vitality is labeled specifically for dietary use and is the appropriate product to use when promoting and using oils internally.

Lavender Vitality has endless usage possibilities, especially when used in cooking. Use it in savory dishes like lamb or chicken or sweet desserts like pound cakes and shortbread. It’s great to add to jams and lemonades. Personally, my favorite way to use Lavender Vitality is taking in a capsule with Copiaba Vitality and Peppermint Vitality. I add 3 drops of each to a veggie capsule and take a few times when I am spending time outdoors.

Yang Ylang Essential Oil

Deb SagisserEssential Oils

Ylang Ylang essential oil is perfect for diffusing to enjoy its romantic and relaxing sweet floral aroma.

The health benefits of Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties as an antidepressant, antiseborrhoeic, antiseptic, aphrodisiac, hypotensive, nervine and sedative substance.

This essential oil was not widely known about until very recently, but with the thousands of cosmetics products and their advertisements flooding the television and global media, it soon became a household name and a favorite for aromatherapists.

The essential oil of ylang-ylang is extracted by steam distillation of fresh flowers of the ylang-ylang tree, which bears the scientific name Cananga Odorata and is commonly found in the rain forests of certain Asian and South Pacific Islands like Indonesia, Philippines, Java, Sumatra, Comoro and Polynesia.

The chief components of the essential oil of ylang-ylang are benzyl acetate, benzyl benzoate linalool, caryophyllene, geranyl acetate, methyl benzoate, p-cresyl methyl ether and other components known as Sesquiterpenes, which all contribute to its aroma and medicinal properties.

Along with its widespread use in perfumes and aromatherapy treatments due to its very pleasing and delicate fragrance, ylang-ylang essential oil is also used for a variety of medicinal purposes.

Health Benefits of Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil

Let’s investigate how many of the medicinal properties of ylang-ylang essential oil match up with the mass media advertisements!

Antidepressant: This is one of the oldest known medicinal properties of Ylang-Ylang and it is a part of the essential oil as well. It fights depression and relaxes both the body and soul, thereby driving away anxiety, sadness, and chronic stress. It also has an uplifting effect on mood and induces feelings of joy and hope. It may be an effective treatment for those undergoing nervous breakdowns and acute depression after a shock or an accident.

Antiseborrhoeic: Seborrhoea or Seborrhoeic Eczema is a horrible disease that is caused due to malfunctioning sebaceous glands. This disorder results in irregular sebum production and the consequent infection of the epidermal cells. It looks very unattractive and painful, since the white or pale yellow skin, whether it’s dry or greasy, starts peeling off. This normally happens on the scalp, cheeks, eyebrows and wherever else hair follicles are found. Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil can be beneficial in curing this inflammatory situation and reducing the skin irritation and redness by regularizing sebum production and treating the infection itself.

Antiseptic: Any wounds like cuts, abrasions or burns comes with the chance of the wound becoming septic from various bacterial infections. The risk of complications is even greater when the wound was made by an iron object, as there remains a chance of it becoming infected by tetanus germs. Essential Oil of Ylang-Ylang can help to avoid both sepsis and tetanus by inhibiting microbial growth and disinfecting the wounds. This property of Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil protects your wounds from infections from bacteria, virus and fungus. It also helps to speed up the healing process of the wound.

ylangylangbenefits1Aphrodisiac: The Essential Oil derived from Ylang-Ylang can really activate the romance within couples and can improve your sexual life. This can be very beneficial for those people who have lost interest in sex due to tremendous work load, professional stress, depression, or the effects of pollution. The loss of libido or frigidity is a growing problem in modern life, but relying on natural essential oils like Ylang-ylang can really help you find your sex drive.

Hypotensive: This oil is a very effective agent for lowering blood pressure. In recent times, since high blood pressure is a major health epidemic among both the young and the old, and the drugs for lowering it having serious adverse side effects on the health, Ylang-Ylang oil can be an easy and natural solution. It has no adverse side effects on health, if taken in prescribed quantities.

Essential Oil Storage: The Basics

Deb SagisserUncategorized

With access to hundreds of pure, authentic essential oils and blends through Young Living, you’re bound to keep your favorites on hand throughout your house, car, gym bag, and elsewhere. When you take your oils everywhere, though, protecting them may not be your first thought. But, thankfully, the rules for storing your favorite oils are simple! Here are a few easy-to-follow tips to ensure that your essential oils stay at their peak potency.

Don’t Bring the Heat!

Prolonged exposure to sunlight and extreme heat can change the chemical composition and evaporation rate—and, therefore, the efficacy—of even the purest essential oils. Avoid keeping your oils in the car, near windows, or next to any heat source for extended periods of time.

Of course, it’s never a bad idea to spice up your cooking with essential oils for a delicious, twist—just be sure to mix in the drops with your drink or meal instead of dropping them directly onto a hot saucepan or other heat source.

Amber Bottles - Young LivingBottling Your Own Blend?

If you make your own blends, we recommend following our practice of storing all oils in amber-glass bottles. Amber-colored bottles protect the oils from damaging ultraviolet light, while the glass is strong enough for certain oils and blends like citrus oils that may dissolve plastic.

Gear to Protect Your Oils

Forget your purse and Ziploc baggies—the best gear to protect and easily transport your essential oils are Young Living’s carrying and storage cases. They keep your bottles neatly organized and accessible while protecting them from impacts that could crack or shatter the glass.

For those on the go, our compact 10-Oil Case is a convenient choice that comes in bluefuchsia, or green. If you want a little more space, check out our 16-bottle Essential Oil Carrying Case or the 30-Oil Case. And for those times when you need your entire collection, try the Aroma Kit Soft Case, which holds up to 130 5-ml bottles of your favorite essential oils and blends.
