Bringing Sexy Back with Essential Oils.

“Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or like a young stag on the rugged hills.” Song of Solomon 2:17

While great relationships can be discovered during the day while sharing common activities like running around chasing toddlers or attending a nonprofit organization, the real work of romance takes place after the work is done for the day.
Make sure to spend time together when you can devote all of your attention to each other. The night, when the duties of the day are forgotten, is usually the best time to be close. Don’t fill the time with TV or the internet. They are a poor substitute for intimacy.

Let’s be honest right here and now, absolutely no one has the perfect sex life. Sex is one of the most amazing and intimate things we can experience and often times it is clouded with guilt, shame, pain, unsaid expectations, and awkwardness. If you are even lucky enough to be one of the few women who actually feels comfortable talking about it with your friends (chances are it’s that silent issue – everyone wants to talk about) you’ve probably heard your gal pals complaining about their low libido.

“I just have no sex drive. He would have it everyday, but are you kidding me? That would mean I have to shower!” or you want it way more than your partner and he is one with the low libido.

Whatever the case may be, we could probably use some help.

Think ahead by preparing and planning for your evening. Start by cleaning your bedroom (I suggest essential oil-based Thieves Household Cleaner). Get rid of clutter (or at least move it elsewhere). Vacuum, dust, wash sheets and linens, and make sure the room feels fresh and clean.

Now prepare your sheets and linens by scenting them with something exotic. I suggest making the following pillow spray using Sandalwood , Patchouli, Ylang Ylang Sensation or Lady Sclareol.

Exotic Pillow Spray

25 drops essential oils
1 oz. vodka
1 oz. purified water
2 oz. glass spray bottle

So let’s jump in and I’ll share some of my favorite oils for enhancing a healthy sex life.

Remember, our sense of smell is incredibly powerful for accessing the limbic system of our brain and thus can effect our libido and hormones. Aromatherapist, Dr. Naresh Arora explains, “The essential oils do magic and stimulate the pituitary gland, the master of endocrine gland, which controls hormone production. Inactiveness of pituitary gland can lead to low sex drive. So, the oils help keep it in an active state.”
Brain's limbic system vector

Ylang Ylang – This has been traditionally used as an aphrodisiac and is great for both you and your partner. This is a very sweet and floral scent that has a similar smell to Jasmine. It has a very calming effect on the body and heart and can relieve that occasional anxious sexual feelings that arise from time to time. Emotionally it really fosters a feeling of love, security and serenity.  This is the oil that is said to boost that libido and help you get in the mood.

Application: Diffuse – Follow some of the recipes below.
Topical – Apply a drop to your wrists, behind the neck on the bottom of feet, around the belly button, on inner thighs or a body massage with a carrier oil.
Find this oil too sweet by itself? Add some lemon to it.
Keep in mind though that lemon essential oil is phototoxic so please avoid the sun for the next 12-48 hours.
Clary Sage – I love this oil, it has been a life saver for me. This oil has a deep sweet nutty flavor that reminds me of Bergamot essential oil that I dearly enjoy. This oil can be described as euphoric. It has been traditionally used to promote hormonal balance within the body, which if your hormones are out of whack you will definitely experience low libido. This oil helps you become very relaxed and has some sedative properties to it. It can help to release the tension and stress of the day and can help ease you into a more sensual state.

Application: Apply a few drops on the bottoms of the feet and forearms daily. I rub a drop unto the ends of my hair and every time I move my head I can smell it.

Lady Sclareol – This is a delicious blend of Geranium, Coriander, Vetiver, Orange, Clary Sage, Bergamot, Ylang ylang, Royal Hawaiian sandalwood, Spanish sage, Jasmine, Idaho blue spruce, Spearmint and Hinoki. Every single oil in this blend helps bring about confidence, joy, peace and elevates emotions while helping to reduce occasional stress. This blend is also powerful for balancing our the hormones in our body. Every woman should wear this every day.

Application: Apply to the bones on the back of the ear as well as the wrists and heart center daily.

“I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon…” (Proverbs 7:17)

Cinnamon Bark – Cinnamon smells divine and is known to be a powerful brain tonic. It has long been know to enhance energy and reduce fatigue. But most importantly for today, it is the oil of sexual harmony.
“Cinnamon strongly supports the reproductive system and helps with sexual issues. It assists individuals in accepting their body and embracing their physical attractiveness. It nurtures healthy sexuality. It rekindles sexual energies when there has been repression, trauma or abuse. It can also bring clarity to souls who struggle with their sexual identity.” –Daniel McDonald

Application: This is a VERY hot oil, so dilute 1:4 to carrier oil. Diffuse regularly with other oils like Bergamot, Patchouli, Orange and Frankincense. You can can apply a couple drops to the big toe and ankle known as the reflexology points for your libido.

Feeling a little dry?
I can tell you right now that any personal lubricant you purchase at the drug store is far from natural. In fact, while the lubricant may do an excellent job lubricating things, the side effects of the chemical ingredients can cause a host of other problems.

What kinds of problems?

It turns out, candida LOVES this stuff – and if candida loves it, you may find yourself with repeated yeast infections. BUMMER.

So, if you want a personal lubricant, but don’t want to buy the stuff at the store, what do you do?

Fortunately coconut oil makes an excellent personal lubricant. However, if you use latex condoms, this lubricant is a NO-NO. Coconut and latex do not make good friends and the integrity of the latex condom will be compromised.

So, why will this personal lubricant change your life? First, you are using a product that you know what the ingredients are!
