Things were going smoothly all WINTER. My children were doing so well! We were up and about when most of my friends were under the weather. Well, now it’s my turn nurse my children to health. 

Alex, my soon to be 4 year old and Anna, my 2 year old woke me up by coughing around 6am. 6 am! I haven’t been up that early since the Easter Sunday.
It’s hard watching your children try to breath and hack.

So what do I do?

Plenty of cuddles, Thieves Spray, healing bone broth, diffusers running, plenty of Ningxia Red and homemade Healthy Throat Syrup.

The Throat Syrup is easy to make, it tastes DELICIOUS and I’m pretty sure you have most of the ingredients at hand if you’re a crunchy mama. *wink*

Here are the magic ingredients.

Honey
Honey has powerful anti-viral and anti-microbial properties! In clinical studies, honey has shown to be just as effective in alleviating coughs as over the counter cough medicine. Honey is also known to help alleviate allergies. According to studies, taking a few teaspoons of local raw honey a day prior to pollen season can be effective in boosting your immunity to pollen!

Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is often used in home remedies for a good reason! It is known to help boost the immune system and also has antiviral and antibacterial properties.

Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants and contains lauric acid, which is antibacterial and antiviral. Coconut oil can be used to help prevent colds by boosting the immune system. Once the cold is set in, coconut oil can help reduce the length of sickness and can be quite soothing when added to warm honey-lemon water or tea.

Lemon Vitality essential oil – Increases your absorption of vitamin C Lemon essential oil consists of 68% d-Limonene, one of the most powerful antioxidants

Lavender Vitality essential oil – It is especially useful to the respiratory system during seasonal changes

Frankincense Vitality essential oil – is considered a tonic, as it benefits all the systems operating in the body, including the digestive, respiratory, nervous, and excretory systems. It also aids the absorption of nutrients and strengthens your immune system.

Copaiba Vitality essential – is a wonderful essential oil that has traditionally been used to support the body’s natural response to irritation and support healthy digestion.

Cedarwood essential oil – The major components of cedarwood essential oil are alpha-cedrene, beta-cedrene, cedrol, widdrol, thujopsene and a group of sesquiterpenes — all of which contribute a great deal to its health benefits.

Without further ado, let’s get to the good part!

Honey and Lemon Throat Syrup with Coconut Oil

Ingredients
3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup local raw honey
3 tablespoons coconut oil
1 drop Lemon Vitality essential oil
1 drop Frankincense Vitality essential oil
I drop Copaiba essential oil
I drop Lavender essential oil

Instructions

Mix all the ingredients together in a small saucepan and heat over low until coconut oil is melted.
Take warm syrup by the spoonful as desired. You can also mix the syrup into warm water or tea.
Once the syrup is cooled the coconut oil will harden.
Store in refrigerator for up to a month. Gently warm the syrup up before using.

What to do with Cedarwood essential oil?
Mix 2 drops in 2 tablespoons of coconut oil and apply to the throat and chest area to support healthy throat.
