Boomer’s First Bath

Noreen KnightDogs, Young Living Animal Scents

What puppy or dog for that fact is not constantly rubbing or rolling on the ground?  Hence, was wondering when to give Boomer his first bath and it probably should have been a few weeks ago.  Boomer is now 4.5 months old and really growing, so today was the day!   Every dog reacts different to being in a tub with water running.  They want to jump back on you or try to escape.  Boomer did pretty good for his first bathing.

But let’s talk about safe non toxic products to use on animals.  I was always told animals are barefoot and naked.  If you think of that statement it has alot of truth to it.  For example what are cleaning your floors with?  Aren’t your pets walking and lying on them.  I know Boomer is busy “licking” up anything he can find.  So thankful that Young Living provides Thieves cleaner, which is plant based, and can be use on everything!   But let’s take a look at shampoos for animals.  In the past I may have been guilty of using a bit of human shampoo in a pinch on dogs for bathtime.  #nobetterdobetter  Human shampoos are NOT meant for animals!  The pH balance in human shampoos are too acidic and can be harmful over time.

After a trip to our local pet store to research dog shampoos, I was a bit shocked at what is still out there and don’t be fooled by flowery, leafy logos.  Look up ingredients people!  Doing a bit a research ahead of time might save them from harm.

Typical reactions from shampoos can include:

  • Bald patches
  • Blister-like lesions
  • Chronic ear infections
  • Chronically inflamed feet
  • Face rubbing
  • Head shaking
  • Hives
  • Obsessive licking
  • Paw biting
  • Skin infections
  • Skin rashes
  • Swelling, particularly around the face
  • Ulcerations on skin

Young Livings Animal Scents Shampoo is what I used today on Boomer.  Their shampoo is formulated with five pure essential oils and other natural ingredients.  The shampoo is soothing and left his coat feeling wonderful!  Love that it does not contain any mineral oils, synthetic perfumes or artificial coloring.  I love how concentrate our products are and easily to dilute.  Again, a little bit goes a LONG ways.  As you see in the picture he has run around like a wild thing with his collar around his face!  Here’s to splish, splash, taking a bath….but no harmful chemicals for my baby!
