In the words of Martina MacBride: “This for all you girls about fourty-two, Tossing pennies into the fountain of youth, Every laugh, laugh line on your face, Made you who you are today”.
It is so true. I myself have tried every single face cream known to man. I swear! Some inexpensive, some that cost about the same as a car payment! They are in every department store, drug store and claim to work ‘miracles’ and remove wrinkles. I’ve even ordered them from an infomercial. I’ve tried the natural masks made from stuff out of the fridge and living in the desert my skin was zapped of any moisture it once had.
The bad news is that many of these wonder creams contain fragrances. According to EWG.com When you see “fragrance” on a personal care product’s label, read it as “hidden chemicals.” A major loophole in FDA’s federal law lets manufacturers of products like shampoo, lotion, and body wash include nearly any ingredient in their products under the name “fragrance” without actually listing the chemical. http://www.ewg.org/enviroblog/2007/12/ask-ewg-what-fragrance
As a girl with ‘problem’ skin, I’ve learned I have sensitivities to many different creams and lotions and most cause me to have break outs because they clog my pores.
Now I have found one I love and it’s really inexpensive, chemical free and I make it myself!
I use Jojoba oil as a carrier because I like how it feels on my skin but you can use any number of carrier oils. Despite some misconceptions oils are fantastic for the skin as part of your daily skin care routine.
- Many botanical oils, are potent antioxidants.
- Because oils are lipophilic, or fat loving, they pass though the lipid layer of the skin faster, preventing water loss and plumping skin with moisture more effectively.
- They absorb way better than creams
Adding skin support essential oils will give you that luxurious feeling you deserve. Here are some ideas:
- Cedarwood (good for dry skin)
- Tea Tree
- Lemon (Can be good for oily skin but be careful it is phototoxic.. no going out in the sun)
I use 1oz of Jojoba oil with 1 drop each of Frankincense (hello! Has been known to reduce the appearance of fine lines / wrinkles), Lavender (great for the skin) and Geranium (also great for dry skin).
I can’t get enough and my skin has never felt so moisturized. Who doesn’t need that living in Phoenix Arizona where the temperatures are five gazillion degrees and the wind is like a hot hairdryer in your face?
Btw, one drop of lavender costs about 9 Cents and Frankincense about 29 cents per drop.
