2-Part Series, The Sugar Addiction

In the first article, Dr. Lustig helps us to identify many of the hidden sugars in are daily food intake.  If you haven’t watched his 90 min. video on YouTube, “Sugar, The Bitter Truth”, I encourage you to do so.  Dr. Lustig provides us much understanding of why & how our bodies have become so out of balance by the foods we eat.  In Part I, I shared other hidden sources of sugar, how we have been bamboozled by the food industry, and why our sugar intake has increased so much since the low-fat, no-fat craze.

How can we R E D U C E sugar intake?

So how can you begin to make some real changes?  What are some first steps you can take?  The first thing I need to point out to you is that behavior change is no simple task, my friend.  It takes a renewed mind & motivation that is committed to a vision of greater health for you and that of your family.  If you can securely fix that vision in your mind, add daily intention, & surround yourself with likeminded people, you are well on your way to forming new and lasting behavior change than can support a lifestyle of wellness.

Furthermore, you may have heard it takes at least 21-days to change a habit.  This is an excellent beginning.  Can you think in terms of a 3-week chunk of time to begin your process of change?  Then let’s take it day by day, because you may need more time.  According to a 2009 study, the time it takes to form a habit really isn’t that clear-cut.

Researchers from University College London examined the new habits of 96 people over the space of 12 weeks, and found that the average time it takes for a new habit to stick is actually 66 days; furthermore, individual times varied from 18 to a whopping 254 days. The take-away message here is that if you want to develop a new behavior, it will take at least two months, and you shouldn’t despair if three weeks doesn’t do the trick — for most people that is simply not enough. Stick with it for longer, and you’ll end up with a habit you can keep without thinking.

Now, some daily steps!

The first step, consider incorporating Young Living Essential Oils into your lifestyle.  Essential oils are natural to the body & work immediately with the body, not against its natural processes.  I love how Dr. David Stewart puts it, “the intelligence of the oils know exactly what to do in the body.”  With the Premium Starter Kit you can begin to experience essential oils daily & learn how essential oils can work with all 12 body systems.  This first step is wonderful & powerful!  Essential oils can offer many benefits to the body for example, enhance mood, support overall well-being and wellness, maintain healthy body systems, and promote relaxation & much more!

Young Living offers so many products to  support a healthy lifestyle that includes  chemical-free, toxic free living.  From  essential oils to oil-infused products, Young  Living can support your entire family to move toward greater health.  Specific YL Oils suggested to support the elimination of a sugar addiction are Dill, applied to the wrists; also Purification or Peace & Calming can be diffused.

Another step is to remove the white sugar, white flour, and white salt from your pantry.  This is another big step.  After becoming a Young Living Member, I did it this and you can too.  I have listened to so many teachings from D. Gary Young and the evidence is so clear that this needs to be a strong first step toward changing your dietary intake. Beginning to think about going all organic is overwhelming, and yes it can be expensive.  It takes time and an undivided commitment to making these positive, lasting changes for your health and that of your family.  Just begin by removing all the white sugar and choose an organic sugar.  You have made a positive lasting change.

Another step, move away from the purchasing sweets on a regular basis like donuts, cakes, cookies, stop_sugar_habit_imagesweet rolls.  Think about how you can replace those by making your own favorite recipes again using organic flour & sugar and of course essentials oils.  Try Young Living’s Vitality line dedicated to dietary supplement and begin to bring them into your kitchen.  Think about choosing an organic salad dressing, marinade or tomato sauce instead of your typical ones; there is so much hidden sugar in these foods.  Another option, make your own dressings and marinades with Young Living Vitality.

Other suggestions:

  • Switch to whole, raw & unprocessed foods, as most sugar you end up with comes from processed fare
  • Cut back on the amount of sugar you personally add to your food or drinks
  • Consider a stop purchase on those fancy coffees and energy drinks
  • Use Stevia or Luo Han instead of sugar and/or artificial sweeteners
  • Use fresh fruit in lieu of canned fruit or sugar for meals or recipes calling for a bit of sweetness
  • Use spices instead of sugar to add flavor to your meal

Behavior change is a process.  Wellness is a process.  One has to fall in love with the process, whether it’s learning to eat better, exercise more or becoming better at your field of work.  To be victorious, our attitude should be one of learning more, embracing change and doing better each day.  Young Living Essential Oils is an excellent foundation for providing you the products, education & support toward a lifestyle of wellness.  Contact me for more support or to offer you a class on how Young Living Essential Oils can help.  Yours in Wellness.
