Has there ever been someone in your life that you really looked up to? You might not have ever met them in person but it was someone that you respected and were in awe of their accomplishments in life. D. Gary Young, or Gary as so many knew him as, was and still is one of those people for me.
Saturday night I came home from a local event and took a quick look at Facebook. It was hard for me to believe what I was reading. Gary Young had past away that afternoon after complications from a series of strokes. We had heard that he was not well but I was probably like many thinking that, this is Gary, he will pull through and show up at convention again just like always. He had survived so much, how could this be it?
His death hit me hard. One of my goals was to meet the man that I looked up to. That inspired me to be better. I know I should have pushed harder sooner. I should have had more faith in myself. I was going though flicker today and noticed that there were photos from the last Silver retreat. He was there. Celebrating with those that had push through and made it happen. I was 1 year too late in making Silver Rank.
I was fortunate enough to hear him speak at 2 previous conventions and see him jousting at the first convention I went to. Even a broken hand didn’t stop him. Gary Young pushed himself and he pushed others to be the best they could be. What was really noticeable was his love for his wife Mary and his sons. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a married couple so in love. I think this is when I really fell in love with Young Living. I knew that there was honesty and integrity with the founder and he made sure it carried down to the entire company that he built. His mission was to get essential oils in every single home because he believed that they are a benefit to everyone. Now he has given that over to us. Not corporate, but us. The ones that are talking to people every day about how amazing these oils are and how much we love them. Getting essential oils to people that need them.
D. Gary Young is an inspiration to us all. To live life fully. Set your goals and them meet them, then do it again and again and again. Always have that next goal ready. Never give up. Always have fun at what you are doing. Keep learning something new everyday. Love the people you work with. Be of service to others. I remember him “flying” onto the stage at the 2016 convention. Just like Peter Pan with a big old grin on his face. He was just like a little kid in a candy store.
Thankfully, he had a vision of Young Living as the World Leader in Essential Oils by putting in place a executive team that would grow this company over 800 percent in 5 years. I’m proud to be a part of this company and to be able to go to convention again this year and celebrate Gary’s life. This year’s theme is Freedom. He is now Free with our Father God.
Peace be with you D. Gary Young!
Prayer’s to his family and the entire Young Living Corporate Team.
