Summer is here and so are the multitude of events like your kids games, picnics, vacations, outdoor parties, just to name a few. What is in my oily arsenal to keep our summer routine as toxic free as possible? Here are a few things that I recommend along with a recipe for making your own DIY wipes. These are cheap to make and non-toxic. You can clean anything with them and not worry about the residue left behind.
Oh! And if you think the store bought wipes are non-toxic because they say they are “Green”. Think again. I just checked out a couple that use words that lead you to believe they are non-toxic but when I put them through my Think Dirty app they came up as an 8 on a scale of 0 – 10. 0 being clean and 10 being the worst. What made them an 8? Synthetic Fragrance. They would probably be OK except that companies add synthetic fragrances which may be a carcinogen or possible allergic reactions. When I searched for wipes in the app, I was amazed that most makeup wipes also came up as an 8 along with several brands of baby wipes. If you want safe wipes for you baby and for anyone in your family for that matter, I would suggest Young Living’s Seedlings Baby wipes. They smell amazing. I use them for face wipes and dryer sheets.
Another product I have fallen in love with for the summer is the Young Living Insect Repellent. I suggest reusing a empty 15ml essential oil bottle, removing the label (to get the sticky residue off use Lemon Essential Oil on a paper towel or cotton ball), fill the bottle with the Young Living Insect Repellent and put on an AromaGlide Roller Fitment. This makes it easy to put in your purse and use at anytime you get caught outdoors and find you need it. I also will fill a small 4 oz spray bottle when I need to share with other more like at games, parties or picnics. Have your friends spray in in their hands and then rub on where ever it’s needed so that it doesn’t get on everything else.
Another simple summer time must have is a hand spray. You know, when the soap is all gone in the restroom or you have to use a porta potty and there is no place to wash your hands. Use a small glass 2 oz spray bottle then add 3 – 4 drops of Thieves Essential Oil then top the bottle off with some distilled water. Wa La! Easy Peasy!
What else do I recommend to pack in that summer time bag? Here are a few of my favorites:
Young Living Mineral Sunscreen this is a non-nano sunscreen that has no harsh chemicals and protects you from UVA and UVB rays. I even use it under my makeup all summer long.
Thieves Waterless Hand Purifier
LavaDerm After SunSpray
LavaDerm Cooling Spray
These are ideas for things that I use. You can also look up recipes on Pinerest. I’ve just found some things are easier and better to purchase already made up.
Here is the recipe for the wipes that I use every summer. The gym I go to also uses these all year round for cleaning the mats and equipment after every use. They have totally done away with the store bought wipes. The members love these because they smell so good and they don’t have to worry about what is getting on their hands.
All Purpose Non-Toxic Wipes
1 Container (Purchased from Dollar General)
1 1/2 Cups Distilled Water
1 Cap full Thieves Household Cleaner
1/2 roll Scott Paper Towels (Scott works the best we have found. Purchase at Wal-Mart not Menards)
Remove center cardboard of paper towel roll then cut in half with a serrated knife.
Measure out Water. I use a 2 Cup Measuring cup. Then add the Thieves Household Cleaner and stir well.
Push the paper towels into the container. If they won’t quite go, slowly poor some of the water mixture over them until they are soft enough to push in. Then poor the rest of the water mixture over the top of the paper towels. Let sit for at least 30 minutes before use.
Pull the paper towels out of the center.
That’s it! You’re DIY cleaning wipes are now ready to use on just about anything that needs to be cleaned.
